It’s really hard to walk in a single woman’s shoes. That’s why you sometimes need really special shoes.

Quote from Sex and the City (Yes, I know it isn’t a literary quote, but I liked it too much to pass it up. Besides, most literary quotes about singleness are about being a spinster).

So, since Valentine’s Day is coming up, I figured I could whine about how much I hate the holiday, otherwise known as “Singles Awareness Day” (AKA: SAD), or I could hold my head high and realize that even though this is the twentieth year of me being alone on Valentine’s Day, I still have friends and family who love me. I’m choosing to focus on the latter.

Still though, being a single girl on Valentine’s Day can be a little rough, so I have created a playlist to get me through it (I’ve included YouTube video links in case you don’t know the song, or if you just want to sing along while reading):

Haven’t Met You Yet–Michael Buble: This is my absolute favorite song. Not only is it a cute love song, but it’s a hopeful love song. (

Somebody to Love–Queen: An oldy but a goody. Lyrics are simple: Can anybodeeeeeeee find me somebody toooooo looooooove. (That’s me singing) (

Love Story–Taylor Swift: Who doesn’t want a love story like this one? Plus, I would kill for that dress she wears in the music video (

Ridin’ Solo–Jason DeRulo: Great song to listen to while getting ready to go out with your other single girlfriends. He’s ridin’ solo, and he’s okay with it. We should too. (

Just the Way You Are–Bruno Mars: I don’t know a single girl who wouldn’t want a guy to tell her she’s perfect just the way she is. (

Bulletproof–La Roux: For those who are a little jaded by love, this is such a great angry break-up song. Plus, the beat is great to bop you head along. (

I Do Not Hook Up–Kelly Clarkson: So I may or may not have just jumped on my bed rocking out to this song before I wrote about it (My roommate was no present at the time). I love this song, great message for us girls who have no interest in giving what we don’t wish to give. (

Single Ladies (Put a Ring on it)– Beyonce: Like I could make a single girl’s Valentine’s Day playlist without this song… (

Beautiful– Bethany Dillon: Great reminder of where my worth and beauty comes from. (Thanks God!) (

So This is Love–Disney’s Cinderella: I want this to be my first dance at my wedding, so it’s basically in this list for wishful thinking. (

True Love’s Kiss–Disney’s Enchanted: Seeing how I have not yet been kissed, I, like Giselle, am waiting for true love’s kiss. Again, it’s in here purely for wishful thinking. (

Daughters–John Mayer: Great chill song, and I love the lyrics. Parents should take notes. And girls too, since they will be lovers who turn into mothers one day. (

Big Girl (You’re Beautiful)–MIKA: This is my go-to song when I’m feeling down on myself. Not only is it my ringtone, but it’s a great reminder that beauty has no size. Plus MIKA is awesome. (

A Postcard to Henry Purcell–Jean-Yves Thibaudet: This is the song Elizabeth Bennet and Dr. Darcy dance to in the 2005 version Pride and Prejudice. And as Jane Austen once said, “To be fond of dancing is a certain step towards falling in love.” (

Soulmate–Natashia Beddingfield: A simple question: why are we alone if we have a soul mate? This one is more depressing, but Valentine’s Day is sure to be an emotional rollercoaster for some. *looks guiltily away from computer screen* (

Kiss Me–Six Pence None the Richer: It’s one of those songs that appear in nearly every teen movie; it’s cheesy; it’s overplayed, and I love it. (

For You I Will (Confidence)–Teddy Geiger: This song is more of a personal choice; for a while I was obsessed with this song and thought it was the cutest song in the world. This may or may not have been because I thought Teddy Geiger was attractive. Still a cute song though. (

I Want to Hold Your Hand–The Beatles: A song for all of us who have/had a crush. One of the best Beatles songs in my opinion. (

Girls Just Want to Have Fun–Cyndi Lauper: A reminder that we should be out celebrating out singleness, not sulking about it! (

One Less Lonely Girl–Justin Bieber: Ok, before you close out of this blog in protest, hear me out: This song is in here because if I were a thirteen year old girl, I would not only be in love with this song, but I’d most definitely be in love with JBiebs. And I’ll admit, I’ve got Bieber Fever. So this song is for the young and the young at heart, who thinks a fifteen year old singing about love is adorable. (

So there you have it. What other songs would you add to your Valentine’s Playlist? Tell me in the comments! (All four of you)

  1. My boyfriend sent me “Just the Way You Are” by Bruno Mars a few months ago…I have to admit I broke down and cried. 🙂
